There's a certain feeling you get when you look down at the world from a vantage point or when you look out across a sea as waves crash in. It's grand, but it's not quite awe or wonder, as these carry a positive connotation and you can get the same feeling from darker things too. Being in an apartment block near a war zone and hearing bombs rumble in the distance, watching a large fire rip through a forest, or feeling the weight of a pistol tug against you as you walk through a place you probably shouldn't be.
I think it's the the excitement that things do, in fact, happen and that you, yourself, are close to them, simultaneously lessened by the awareness that no matter who you are you are small and at the mercy of fate. To me this is the human experience. The mundane of ergonomic office chairs, public transport and asthma inhalers briefly shattered by the penthouse suite and its view of Miami, the twin-prop aeroplane on a dirt runway in Africa or the laced joint being passed around a squat full of punks. The perfect combination of place, time and people to wake you up and confront you with the size of the world and your place in it.
I think that, if I had to put what I'm looking for in an image, it would be the picture of Lana Del Rey holding a gun in a hotel room. Beauty, danger, boredom, anticipation, all together and more at once.
Nice easy request for you all. For reference, I am male and UK based (but I do travel a lot).
