Gold vs. steel nib from same manufacturer - comparable writing quality/experience?

Post Body

Iโ€™m saving up for my first gold nib, and wanted to know: how significantly does the writing quality/feel of the steel nib differ from the gold nib from the same manufacturer?

Iโ€™ve amassed a collection of starter pens and wondered how the โ€œfeelโ€ translates to their higher end models. Is it fair to extrapolate the experience of entry level pens to their higher end models? For example, if I like my Metropolitan more than my Vista, would it be better to get the Custom 92 than the 2k?

Hoping I can tap into the collective wisdom of the hive mind!
