Me: Owner of many bottles of shimmering inks. Doesn’t get to use shimmering inks as often. Has Noodlers Neponset and it works great with shimmer inks - it’s actually dedicated to Diamine Shimmering Golden Sands. Tried shimmer inks in other pens, not as pleasant a writing experience.
Dilemma: Wants to use shimmering inks and avoid issues like slow start, clogging, consistency of shimmer, etc. Prefers to write with a fine line. Oh, and not spend too much money.
Solution: Wing Sung 3008 via eBay for about $2 each; more or less.
Personal notes: Inked it up with shimmering ink and it wrote like a dream. Inked another and also wrote well especially after a little bit of tuning. Surprised by how well the Wing Sung 3008 wrote as compared with more pricier fountain pens.
Pros: Inexpensive. A Wing Sung 3008 can be dedicated to each shimmer ink. Piston filling system so it holds a decent amount of ink compared to a cartridge converter. Visually captivating - being able to see shimmer particles settle and swirl around. No clogging. No slow start. Writes with a fine line similar to a western F as opposed to a Japanese F.
Cons: Takes about a month for the pens to deliver. Some sellers seem to limit how many you can buy, or sellers may have limited stock. Some nibs may require a little bit of tuning.
Additional remarks: The solution might be obvious for some but until I inked it up with a sample of Robert Oster Violet Dreams and took note how well it wrote without issues, a light bulb lit in my head. Finding this out has made me extremely happy. There’s going to be lots of writing with shimmering inks in the near future as I acquire more.
