After a short eternity (5 days), my new Pilot Elite 95s has arrived! This is my first gold nib pen and so far, I've been very happy with it. For its first ink I went with a cartridge of Pilot Namiki Blue to make sure the ink would work well with the pen. Once it got flowing it's been fantastic; it simply glides across the page.
As for the pen itself, it is not heavy (as many people mention in reviews). I don't find this off-putting in a pen that is designed for the pocket. It makes it light to carry around and not fatiguing to hold while writing. It also does not feel cheap to me despite the lack of heft. Of course, that is a matter of preference so there are no wrong opinions. I'm also a big fan of this color combination. The burgundy and gold looks very classy and is just what I was expecting when I placed the order. It is a beautiful pen in person and is a joy to handle.
I did go with a medium nib. In retrospect, I would be interested in trying both the fine and extra fine nibs for comparison. Still, given how well it writes and that I tend to prefer a heavier line when writing I don't regret it at this point. That said, I would also be very interested in hearing what you think about the differences between the nibs and how each performs.
