Good, inexpensive everyday pen

Post Body

Hi. My situation is as follows: I have a Pilot Custom 823 f, a Pilot Custom 743 sm, and a Pilot Elite m inked all the time as my EDC pens. I use them for bullet journal entries throughout the day, jotting down thoughts on train rides, at university, and at work. They (and two notebooks) are always in my bag when I leave the house. I take good care of them, they are stored in a pen roll, but you can't prevent everything. Sometimes your bag gets squished or falls over, etc. I don't think I will be robbed and I don't usually lose things, but one never knows what will happen in the future. As I am a student I definitely don't consider 700 bucks of pens to be easily recoverable, they are also of sentimental value and since I use these pens for handwritten exams (very regular in my field) I don't want them to get damaged. Therefore I would like a good reliable pen for EDC and keep the three Pilots at home and only take them with me when I definitely need them (for exams mostly).

What pen would I like?
I very much enjoy the very fine nib of the Pilot Custom 823 and I use it for most BuJo entries - it is my standard writing pen - so I would like a very similar nib on the EDC pen. Ideally, I wouldn't be able to tell if a line was written with the 823 or the EDC pen. High ink capacity is not needed, a CON 40 would suffice as I only write about an A5 page throughout the day. I thought about the Pilot Prera (inexpensive and reliable), the Pilot Custom 74 (what I like but cheaper, screw cap might be annoying), and the Pilot Vanishing Point (metal body, useful mechanism for quick notes as there is no cap to worry about, but rather expensive for an EDC pen). I don't want to limit myself to Pilot, but I have to admit that I love their pens and have very good experiences with their products and customer service. How do the steel nibs of the Prera and Metropolitan compare to the gold nibs? Is a fine Pilot steel nib as fine/wide as a fine Pilot gold nib? I don't need line variation in the EDC pen, just consistency. I also enjoy soft and bouncy (not flex) nibs, I hate hard and stiff nibs (TWSBI for example).

Please feel free to recommend any pen that comes to your mind, budget is up to 200 bucks, but ideally under 100. Size is not an issue, I won't write long letters with that pen anyways, but I don't like step downs and prefer the grip section to be around 11-12mm thick. The nib should be an Asian fine, ideally indistinguishable from the fine nib of a Pilot Custom 823. Cap must post securely and close very reliably, no cap as in a Vanishing Point is cool too, but not necessary. Converter and piston are both fine as long as they work reliably.
