Hi all, just re watched this film half an hour ago and I have a theory/ question for those who've seen it too.
Was Sorgoi running away from mental health care/secure hospital in his home country? and was there no national tv station backing his documentary?
my reasoning:
- In the start of the film he seems very naive and easily trusting others, for example when his camera was nicked by the guy and he took off like any well minded individual wouldn't leave such an expensive item laying around. You can also see this when he tries to enter a cinema with his camera 'rig', most people know you can't take recording devices into a cinema.
- Later on when he gets beaten up by the guys, why is he so insistent on not seeing a doctor? is this because they'd scan his passport and some sort of alert would come up to say he's missing etc
- Another thing is when Sorgoi explains how the tv company aren't responding to him. Like if this was a genuine national tv channel surely there would be a lot of contact between the producers and Sorgoi. It seems to me that, this is all a fantasy in his head.
- lastly and in my opinion, the most compelling bit of evidence. Is when he rings his mother and she says how the police are looking for him. If it was the French Gendarmerie they'd just easily find him lol, he's pretty easy to spot, anyways if it was them, why'd they ring his mum? . It makes me feel like he's ran away from his country and Sorgoi's mother has rung the police in fear or worry that her mentally unwell son is gone AWOL. To add that, in his state he mentions he never wants to go back there... pretty compelling, right?
thanks for reading my post, I'm really passionate about this movie :) wonder if anyone else is passionate about it too
