Prevent PC crashing

I had just finished a 12 lap Goliath, but my game crashed as soon as I go next from the time table. The lap wasn't recorded as a result. How do I prevent my PC from crashing like this? What is the main problem? Is it because of my processor?
I have an i5-4690K (currently at 4.00 GHz) and GTX 1070
EDIT: finished a 10 lap goliath last night. I guess it is just luck of the draw...
