new to fort wayne having car problems
Post Body

hi i (23F) just moved to fort wayne so i don’t have friends or family here to recommend a good honest mechanic that wont look at me completely clueless and high ball a number for what i need :( currently i had to leave my car stranded at a gas station (with the workers permission) because i was near empty and when i went to fill up my gas the tank door would not open nor could i get it to open by sticking a card inside and trying to click the latch i don’t know where to go or how much this would be if i need to tow it to a mechanic as well. I also need my oil and brakes changed and have no clue what an average price point is for that and i don’t want to inquire without having a baseline of what to expect. Please give me any recommendations or advice.

UPDATE : i managed to get avoid calling a tow to a mechanic and got by car fixed by a mobile mechanic! for anyone wondering the cable that connects the gas door latch to the lever that pops it open had some how broken through wear and tear but the mechanic went ahead and welded it it together for only 80$. I’m still pending my oil change and break pads but i’m glad i was able to get the tank filled up without needing a tow and can now take it to a mechanic for the rest of the pending maintenance! Also i tried inquiring yesterday but i didn’t realize all the mechanics are closed on Saturdays lol… culture shock.

TYSM for all the recommendations hopefully i can get it done soon once pay week comes around lol i appreciate the help !
