I started a subreddit called /r/CharitableBets a while ago.
The idea is that a bet is made (pitting the glory of your team/driver against that of another, predicting the top 10 in quali or the race [as I believe some of you do already in GuessTheGrid] or even what lap someone will change tyres on!) between two redditors and the loser pays out a pre-determined amount to a pre-determined charity.
It's fun, you get to gloat afterwards and the losers don't really lose - the charities you pick definitely win.
Personally, I'd keep the monetary values low, but higher value bets are acceptable!
The sub has recently raised over $250 (with over $200 of that coming from bets made by /r/NBA users), but I'd like to expand it and /r/Formula1 seems like a perfect subreddit for it!
There's already one bet on the books, made between your very own mod - /u/HeikkiKovalainen - and I. He has $5 on Alonso finishing higher than Raikkonen at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, and I the alternative.
If there's enough interest, I'll make some other bets too!
btw, I checked with the mods that it was ok to post this (upvotes for visibility would be great - it's only a self-post )
