Help With arial and terrestrial LIDAR for forest inventory

Hi, I'm currently a first year student in community college with hopes to transfer to michigan tech next year for forestry. I'm currently in a composition class that assigned us to write an essay about technology in our majors field of work, and i chose LIDAR for forest inventory. I was hoping to find some people in the industry who know about the technology or have experience with it. What are your thoughts on it? Will it replace manual inventories? Any good online resources you know of that you could share with me? What are someof the most important points about this technology. Thank you for taking the time to read this
