Several weeks ago, I presented my company in this forum. I started the company because I want to contribute to community.
Together with a couple of friends, I developed five different devices, and I've used them in my own restoration. We made prototypes with 3D printers and tested different versions of each model.
The actual products are manufactured at a factory in the U.K. Our mission is to create high quality devices and advance their development, over time, if and when needed. My idea was to present the products on this forum and get input on them. I presented 3D renderings from the models, and got a number of good ideas in return. We were able to implement some of them. There will be a separate post on these later. I told everyone the products would be available in 40 days or less and that we would probably deliver in 2 to 4 weeks. Unfortunately that timetable has slipped and that deadline was missed, I sincerely apologize to everyone. The delay was twofold.
We were forced to change suppliers because they could not meet our standards as promised.
COVID-19 has cause problems and delays for everyone involved. We booked an on-site visit, but due to and increase in COVID-19 it had to be canceled.
We received all of the nylon products (frame and rod etc.) on Monday and the silicone parts (grippers) today. I'm happy to say that most of the nylon (hard) parts work as intended. We have some minor adjustment to make on one of the 12 parts. The silicone is on the right track, 70% of the first samples are correct, and we are working hard to resolve the issues in the remaining 30%.
We have booked a zoom meeting Monday with the manufacturer. We will be evaluating the products until then. My overall impression is positive, nevertheless I wish to be restrained and say that there are issues that need to be resolved.
Our goal now is to ship in week 46 because of the production adjustments. We chose to close ordering and all partners (customers) have had the opportunity for a full refund including all transaction fees or wait for delivery. Our partners have been very kind, loyal, and reliable, over 95% have chosen to wait for product delivery and trust that we are doing things to the best of our ability. I am grateful for their confidence in us and we are working hard to meet these expectations.
I would like to make a clarification. Chuck, Walter, Ron, Zach, and every other device maker are doing a fantastic job. Like all other areas of life, diversity is a good thing, and the more manufacturers that are committed to creating products, the better it will be for all of us. No product or manufacturer is the single best in every aspect. All individuals differ in their experience of quality and what works for them. Think of car brands or any other product.
Everyone has one thing in common in this community:
- We all want to restore what was taken from us!
We also want as many people as possible to be able to restore. All efforts to make better products and find better ways of restoring will help everyone. Progress therefore is always good, and there might be obstacles along the way.
I don't want to say in any way that anyone should buy our products. In fact we have temporarily stopped taking orders. It is also important to remember one thing: manual methods work great for those who have the time, energy and discipline.
My purpose is not to sell products with this update. I'm merely trying to be transparent and honest and inform interested restorers. This community is interested in seeing and following new developments out there. This is just an informational update for those restorers that are interested.
