Both of my service manuals said to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump. Lifting the bed seemed easier.

It is easier, i originally tried to drop the tank, but switched to pulling the bed. Super easy, and if you can manage it, the bed is fairly easy to remove by yourself. Its just bulky, not really that heavy
