'10 Hatch Latch

So the Hatch latch fell of the rear window of our 2010 Escape. Happened around the time the hinges rusted out. I have seen a lot of this era vehicle with similar rusting, breaking issues driving around. Thinking I can repair the latch with rearview mirror glue, thoughts?
Also, suggestions on the need to and process of removing glue from latch (pic below).
