Greetings everyone!
From time to time I do a public post here to get people up to speed and to go over a few things that should be transparent, and oh boy do we have a lot to go over.
GIF/SHORTS & TIMESTAMPS
First and foremost I really need to address something that I keep running into. GIF's/shorts (60 seconds or less) DO NOT need to be tagged with a time stamp. This has been the case for a very long time. The reason is that when something get's flagged it's in my que of things I need to look at and approve or remove. 99.9999% of posts that get tagged with timestamp violation are gifs that don't need it. So please, I'm begging you all who are tagging gifs/shorts like this, please know they do NOT need one.
GIFS/SHORTS VS VIDEO
That being said something we'll need to gave public forum about is how to handle, rather how the community would like to handle duplicate posts in regards to when a duplicate posting happens for but is a video of a gif/short that has been posted before.
I will say this is a very small percentage of posts that happen here. My dilemma is this. I would much more prefer to have the full video content posted rather than shorts. It makes more sense. However removing older posts in favor of better ones feels like we would be taking away from posters in the past (Also someone who wants to grab some easy karma finding sources). The other problem with that is if I don't know it's a full video posting to a gif/shot then I may end up removing the wrong thing.
What are all your thoughts on this?
Let's talk about the Elephant in the room. THE BLACKOUT/PROTEST FUTURE OF THE SUB
If you have been living under a rock on reddit here is the long short of things: https://rtech.support/docs/meta/blackout.html#what-is-going-on
We went dark in part of this protest for better part of a week. I'm in full support of the movement as even doing some basic database and API stuff locally at home I know for a fact that it's way overpriced (Same for twitter but we're not touching that). That being said, I USED A LOT of 3rd party mod tools on my phone and desktop (some of that I had to pay for) that made my life WAY easier in moderating this sub (and others). Reddit will no longer get any of my money to help 'pay' for their platform.
Let's be real, the protest failed. Spectacularly. Nothing has changed, and everyone has given up on it. So whatever I guess. Put your money where your mouth is I guess is only afforded by monopoly money today. ~shrug~
While I can do it with out the tools the whole thing has left a very bad taste in my mouth for the platform as a whole, more so reddit has been threating sub owners, the harassment in messages I got during the black out, and the general attitude of people's entitlement.
I'll be very clear on this point: If reddit puts in a way for the community to out vote/overrule sub owners, and mods to do the same to sub owners or other mods based on a popular content of clicks, I'll leave the platform. It is unfair to the amount of work we put into our communities to get controlled by a few Karen/Kevin's who got a bug up their ass.
.
What does this mean for the future of the sub?
That is really going to depend on reddit. They clearly have lost touch with us, the users, the ones who actually make the platform possible and an okay place to use. That being said we are going to stay here but we are also going to look at some more options to expand out beyond reddit. A backup option in the very minimum incase things go sideways.
That being said...
Officially I'm looking for 2-4 Mods
Now before you all start messaging me asking to be a mod, this is a filter test. If you read this (or didn't) and message me about being a mod and don't include the word 42, spelled out in text not numbers, I'll know you didn't read and you're already disqualified from consideration. Need detailed oriented people who pay attention to that stuff as the difference between approval or bans can hinge on the small details.
People I'll be looking for have a good posting history and/or moderation history on reddit. They need to be at around two years old on reddit. Full stop. We alone have a 30 day rule for new people to post and interact to cull unwarned content. If you are asking to use your alt account I may consider this (it is a NSFW sub after all), but we'd need to prove it's you. I will be checking how you interact with people so overall aggressive, gas lighting, etc people will not be asked to join helping moderate this sub. Sub posters her in good standing are a plus
People with experience in regex automod defenderbot are a plus but not required. I have a list of things that really need to be done on the sub and really could use some help at this point with my tools (mostly all of them) are broken now or will be in a few days.
OC Verifications
There have been a few cases as of late of people posting "OC" content but it's either not their content or owners/rights to it.
Let's clarify what "OC" means on reedit to make sure we are all on the same page. "OC" means Original Content/Comment. Meaning this is you or something you did in making said content. It is not OC if it is from someone else, a clip you cut or what not.
I've also been approached a few times in the last few weeks about verification for their account for the sub. This raises a question....
Do we want to start doing verifications or verified posters? Normally this would be a talk I'd have with the group mods... but we're fixing that.
Valid Content
This is something I'm going to have to expand on in the wiki/rules but I just want to touch on something. Content does NOT have to show a creampie, it can be implied. It's the act of it being done that we like. I also want to reiterate that that it still has to be consensual even if it's acting to try and fool us otherwise. Content that violates this still gets removed, banned user and reported to reddit mods.
Okay that is about enough from me today and my soap box. If there is anything else you all want to see for the sub or got some ideas, post them below and consider everything. ♥♥♥
