Confirmation On Eating Coral Tooth
Post Body

I found this today which I believe to be Hericium coralloides (Coral Tooth Fungus). It was found in southern Idaho underneath a log. It sounds like itā€™s fairly common, identifiable, and edible but is it worth the risk to eat it? Can it be easily confused with anything else that isnā€™t edible? Additionally, there was (I believe) Nectria peziza around the coral tooth. Would this affect the edibility of coral tooth at all? I didnā€™t find any information on whether Nectria peziza is toxic or not.

Keep in mind that my photos are after I flipped the log, which pointed the teeth upwards.

If thereā€™s any advice or recommendations on how to prepare this that would be appreciated as well. I donā€™t know how long it will be ā€œgoodā€ for after I remove it. Any help would be great, thanks!
