Is there a way to repair a relationship with a player who's been denied leaving the club?

[FM17] Tricky situation I have in my Dundee save: one of my best players started moaning because Marseille tried to make a move on him. The French approached me on the last day of the winter transfer window just a couple of hours before midnight. I was willing to sell him as the offer was decent and the guy is 27 aka too old to play, as everyone knows, but had to turn Marseille down as I wouldn't have had enough time to look for a decent replacement.

Said player flipped on me big time, I grossly mismanaged our conversation and now his morale permanently sits on poor. I tried to have influential players talk to him but nothing works, and I have no way to interact with him (no option available whatsoever, not even in the news section after his PotM nominations). In the meantime, Marseille decided that he's not worth their time anymore, leaving me with a constantly unhappy player and no other offers for him. As I said, everything started in January and as of now (October) the situation still stands. Any suggestions?
