Squad Planning: Bloat vs. Depth

Post Body

Being a RL Fenerbahce fan, I usually avoid careers with the club that I support and prefer other leagues due to player selection limitations, financial situation etc.

I just started a career with Fenerbahce for the first time and as I expected, the squad is filled up with players that can play the midfield, a number of strikers who cannot finish...

I am expected to play attacking and entertaining football, so I devised a standard 4-2-3-1 with Tiki Taka and Fluid Counter Attack styles, all custom tactics. I had great success with these tactics for the pre-season and Champion's League Qualifier games.

I transfer-listed a number of players, had acceptable offers for three of them, no offers for the rest. The club is in MASSIVE debt. So I have to sell anyone for acceptable bids. I am having trouble with the promised playing times at the moment. A lot of Regular Starters, Important Players who should be neither.

I have three great young prospects that I am determined to incorporate them into the main squad. As I am expected to reach the group stage for the Champion's League and have the local league/cup. I need a squad with depth but right now all I have is bloat: Five left wingers, seven central midfielders...

I was wondering how you guys would approach squad planning.

Thanks for all the suggestions in advance.
