in 2000, due to world-wide financial struggles within the game, and a dying interest from more casual fans, FIFA was disbanded, and over the next 3 years, a new governing body was created. The World Football Association.
The new organization would be in charge of structuring new leagues, new competitions, and helping football revive itself from over a decade of decline and hardship.
There were massive changes from top to bottom, including the way international tournaments were structured, to the disbanding of national league systems in favour of regional ones that encompassed multiple nations' football clubs.
There were 8 sub-governances within the WFA, each with their own sub-bodies:
FAF - The Federation for African Football
--- EFA - North African Football Association
--- FSAF - Federation of South African Football
AOFA - The Asian and Oceanian Football Association
--- AFF - The Asian Football Federation
--- FOF - The Federation for Oceanic Football
--- AFA - The Arabic Football Association
FAA - The Football Association of The Americas
--- FANCA - The Football Association of North and Central America
--- FASA - The Football Association of South America
FAEE - Football Association of Eastern Europe
NEFU - The Northern European Football Union
UWEFA - Union of Western European Football Associations
SEFF - Southern European Football Federation
FLUKI - The Football Leagues of the United Kingdom and Ireland
