FM 2013 - Any tips/formations to help?

For anyone who still plays 2013 edition, do you have any tried and tested tips or tactics that consistently help you?
Any setups plus training set up would be much appreciated :)
I'm trying to win the Premier League with Everton, and it's just proving impossible. For context, they got relegated early in the game and I got the job and brought them up to the PL, but had to rebuild the squad over a period of 3-4 years, and I'm still struggling despite having a decent squad assembled
I'm aware of the Mr Langvatn/FM base tactics threads, but I just find none of them consistent enough
