I've been trying to train up a front pin shot on my Tornado table (an old coin op T2000 marble cabinet).
I've just realized that when I shoot to the pull side corner, I "overpull" on the rod and the bumper bounces off the wall before I actually strike the ball. I realized a while ago I was bouncing off the side wall sometimes, but looking at a video recording of a few minutes of practice I could hear the extra "bump" sound during the shot every time, and looking at the side wall I could see the bumper bounce off every single time.
I'm pretty sure that this is not only wildly inefficient, the rod going further distance than it needs to (and returning too!), but I'm pretty sure it contributes to inconsistency in the shot and also raises concerns whether an opponent could call a jar on me on a goal scored this way.
I tested this by shooting the front pin from my two row from the center of the goal, and sure enough, the stroke is natural on the push side and I strike the ball with full strength coming out of the pin, but on the pull side I whiff over the ball because I'm used to bouncing off the wall before striking the ball. Practicing fron the two row like this is useful because the bumper is far away from the wall and won't bounce off of it if you are using the near man, from the center of the goal.
I also tested this by pushing the bumpers on either side of my 3 bar out an inch or so. On the far side the bumper never contacts the side wall during practice despite many made goals. On the near side I have to focus hard to prevent the bumper getting mashed up against the man again, and it always does eventually. I'm trying to "retrain" the pull side of the shot by keeping the bumper pushed out far enough to JUST allow for a shot to the near corner, which is about the width of an additional bumper.
Question: Would it be of benefit to just put a second bumper on the near side of my 3 bar for a while to practice, to force the range of lateral motion on my 3 bar during my shot to be within the limits I want it to eventually be? I'm tempted to try this but I wonder if bouncing this giant double bumper off the wall is going to screw up the coordination on my shot even worse.
Anyone with experience getting rid of this kind of problem?
When I was playing and practicing a lot I would practice getting the ball past deadbar and cutting it back into the goal. Just keep practicing and recording and develop what works best and consistent for you.

Pull side rollover. Yes contacted. Then my son son was born and priorities changed. Hope I can gain some of it back whenever I get back around to playing. Hopefully there is a scene here in TN where I’m located as well.
