Hey everybody, my girlfriend, who is disabled and is/was on SSI (last payment a few days ago) and just got approved for her father‘s social security retirement benefit as she is a protected DAC (disabled adult child).
Her SNAP benefit while on SSI was $229/mo. Got a notification yesterday that her food stamp benefit is increasing to $291/mo. even though her dad‘s retirement benefit is $700 more than what she was getting on SSI.
You would think because she’s making more money with her dad‘s retirement benefit that her SNAP benefit would go down more, but apparently that’s not the case.
Can somebody explain what could possibly be going on? Are individuals on SSI getting the raw end of the stick when it comes to food stamp benefits?
Many thanks!
