I posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/foodnetwork/comments/mz1wzl/has_anyone_been_to_an_alton_brown_live_show/
6 months ago asking for advice whether I should or not and wanted to give my take.
What I thought I wouldn't enjoy, I was right. The music wasn't bad, but it wasn't terribly funny either. Some of it was story telling through song, some just an excuse to sing. I would guess it was probably 30 minutes, plus an extra song after the end because it was a Saturday.
There was a story telling time that was really funny and got lots of laughs from the crowd. Great time.
If you follow him on social, he released a quiz that you could take that had 20 questions. If you scored high enough for that city you can participate on stage. I'll add some more context in spoilers below
Second act, he asked to keep a surprise so I will not mention that but it was really interesting and fun to see. It was a cooking demo. I wonder how things would have happened if it wasn't covid how the end product would be shared.
I went for near the top of the seating area in the meh seats where I couldn't see much outside what was on the screen. He kept saying this was a larger theater so YMMV on that one. Tickets were $60 base $77 with fees but could have been much more if you got the good ones.
I'm glad I went, especially since he's done with good eats/good eats reloaded and this is the closing of that chapter. But knowing what I know now I'd probably have passed. Thanks for chiming in, and hope this helps someone for future shows. Note this is the last tour he'll do. There's more legs this spring and I think fall, but this is it to see him live on stage doing something similar.
Context to the online quiz part: Alton Hosts a quiz show with the top 3 people in the city. They had a bank of 100 questions, some with multiple correct answers and the questions were randomized/they didn't tell you which questions you got wrong. There was a glitch that allowed you to keep getting the same 20 questions. You could also brute force your way and just spend hours taking it until you've seen all 100. 2 people brute forced it at my show and 1 used the glitch. So the games they played was pretty boring as they had no clue outside of those questions. Not Alton's fault, but as entertainment value sucked.
Someone else asked merch- I didn't see a ton. There was the beyond the eats tour logo plastered on some of the typical stuff like shirts and stuff.
