Recently, I was in Japan. Of course, I had to try Waygu, as I'd never had it before.
My friend and I found a well recommended restaurant with an A5 Waygu tasting menu for $250USD/each. Small portion of several cuts of beef, including organ meat.
I was expecting to be blown away... But I wasn't. It was amazing, but... Not the life changing beef experience that I expected.
It had a mild, beefy flavor like I expected. The best part was how the waygu fat draped over my tongue and left an amazing mouth feel.
It was melt in your mouth tender, but that almost took away from the beefy flavor.
I guess I'm just disappointed. I could have easily achieved a beefier flavor with the same mouth feel by resting a prime ribeye with a good knob of bone marrow on it.
The service was incredible and I do think that it was a worthwhile experience, just for the sake of saying that I've done it.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
