Announcement for Gamepass players accepting the free month of Fallout First
Post Body

Quick announcement for those who got a free month of Fallout First from Gamepass....

This isn’t related to the sub so much as I wanted to protect our members as much as possible. This week, Xbox Gamepass is offering a free month subscription to FO1st to all members with Ultimate.

This is an incredibly awesome perk as not only do you get all the benefits of First for a month without pay, but you also get a free 1600 Atoms alongside the sub. It’s a win-win here, but there is a hidden drawback that I NEED people to be aware of. This IS a subscription service, and while you were given a free month, you were also signed up for recurring payments that do need to be turned off before the one month is over.

This isn’t an act of malevolence from Bethesda or Microsoft, it’s just how Microsoft subs work. When you start a subscription, the system often automatically sets it to ‘recurring payment’. What this means is whatever account balance you have when the month is over will be charged for the second month; if there isn’t account balance, it will default to whatever credit card you used last I believe. Note quickly that this does NOT mean you will be secretly charged, that they did this to trick you, or that your information is open; it simply means you should turn off the recurring option before the month is over so that you aren’t charged for a second month (unless you want that, in which case, be my guest, 1st is great).

So, how do we turn it off?

Go to www.microsoft.com and click on the account icon in the top right corner of the page. From here, you will need to log in to the same account that you accepted the subscription on (the one with Gamepass).

Once you have logged in, click that account icon again and select “My Microsoft Account”. This will take you to account.microsoft.com .

If you are on mobile, you will receive the account landing page and should see your subscriptions front and center. If you are on PC, I’m not totally sure what the landing page looks like, but find your subscriptions page.

Click on Fallout 1st. This will bring you to the subscription page for First, with all the information on when you subbed, when you will be charged again, payment options, etc.

You COULD theoretically just cancel the sub from here. I’ve done it mid sub, it hasn’t affected my first subscription until renew time; BUT, I can’t guarantee it’ll always work that way, so skip that. Go down to “Has recurring billing....” and click “Change”. This will now have the option to “Turn off recurring billing”. Click that option and wait for it to update. It will ask if you are sure, select confirm and then click “back to subscription”.

Now, to be 100% safe... refresh the page and make sure it now says “recurring billing off”. If it’s confirmed, you are good to go! If not, try repeating the process.

Have fun with your free atoms! From r/TalesfromAppalachia to all of you Filthy Casuals, thank you for tuning in and thank you for your time.
