How do you all do the "RP" in RPG?

I'm just curious. In my 30 years (I'm 35) of gaming, I've never actually attempted to RP in a game. Is it ...hmm... something you can learn to enjoy?
This game and TW3 seem like a good place to start. But uh, how would one...start?
Also, has anyone ever previously not liked the idea of RPing but then began to love it??
I hope that made sense.
