Let me preface this by saying I've played every Fallout game for hundreds of hours each, with the exceptions of Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel. I have nearly 400 hours spread over several characters in Fallout 4 itself.

I started a new game in Survival when the patch launched on PS4, got cocky, died to the bloatflys in Sanctuary. Over the last few days, I've gotten a bit further. However, It took me six tries to kill the Deathclaw in Concord. Getting extremely lucky that it got interested in a raider that was hiding behind a car. I shot the car until it exploded and it sent the Deathclaw flying in my direction, it landing prone at my feet. A few hundred rounds of 5mm in it's head, and I killed it.

I walked with Preston back to Sanctuary and he sent to me Tenpines Bluff. And they want to send me to Corvega. I'm terrified because on my way to Tenpines, I passed the satellite array and got blown up by a molerat. Then I got killed by the raiders. After I managed to kill them I rested on the mattress outside before going in. Caught a disease that causes me to take 20% more damage.

Went inside the array and got killed a dozen more times, mostly via molotov cocktails. I managed to get through it and back to Sanctuary to save and heal up.

Before Survival, I never used pipe weapons. A pipe rifle is now my main weapon.
