Carriage of Dogs on Aircraft
Post Body

Hello Aviation/Dog Lovers,

I am currently a manager of a flight school and live far from my hometown in Australia. I have a 1.5 yo German Shepherd Dog and wish to potentially carry her on a hire flight to the hometown and back. Ideally day VFR because it will save carrying food for the dog.

My dog is well behaved in the car and does not get motion sickness. Shes not restless if anchored down with a seatbelt attachment. If exercised prior to departure she would probably sleep.

I'd imagine I would also have a handshake or verbal agreement with the aircraft owner to see if even in the baggage hold is available.

Aircraft type most likely C206 or C182

Australia has it regulations regarding carriage of animals;

  • Not allowed in passenger cabin
  • Only allowed in baggage area in a pet carrier/container with an absorbment pad
  • Only under written regulatory permission can exceptions be made to the above

However what other precautions do any of you suggest? Nothing is off the table feel free to spitball
