If I were to encounter an emergency that required that I turn off all electronics on the plane (say, electrical fire) - would it be best for me to take 15 seconds to make the emergency radio call to 121.5 before I start shutting off the electronics/battery master? OR - would it best for me to shut things down right away (which would result in the radio no longer operating)? I know every situation is different but I'm curious what people's thoughts are.
I know that acronyms like ABC has "Communicate" at the end probably for a good reason but it's hard for me to justify not making the quick radio call before I shut it off. (And FWIW, I'm considering purchasing a handheld radio for this reason)
Not only am I looking for the "right" answer here but looking for an answer that would best satisfy the DPE during the checkride.
