Recommendations for companies that offer discovery flights - for someone who has never flown a plane before

Hi all - my Bf wanted to be a pilot when he was a kid but then ended up pursuing other dreams. On his birthday in July, I wanted to gift him a flying experience where he gets to fly a plane along with an instructor (while I chill on the back seat).

I am looking for something not too far from NYC (say 1-2 hrs by train / drive). For example, found thison Virgin website as an example.

I am really not familiar with what companies are reputed in this space in the area, especially from a quality of planes and overall safety standpoint.

Looking for inputs from others who are more aware on this topic or have done so themselves. Thanks.
