I am training and studying for my PPL currently in Northern New England.
This is an expensive hobby that I hope to turn into a career some day. My bank account is suffering. I am paying as I go and hoping to fly twice a week. Weather lately has been shit but I will fly as often as absolutely possible.
Rates are $180/hr for plane and $60/hr for instructor.
The rest of my time is either at my full time job (head cook for a banquet center), uber eats driving, studying for PPL or sleeping.
The impatient side of me wants to take out debt, but I know this is a bad idea and I will not do it for my PPL. Maybe later ratings or joining a flight school will require it.
My income is about $4,900/mo. I can spend about $1,200 of that on flight training. I have already got the books/headset and other training materials.
Many people have pursued this goal and successfully followed through with enough motivation and effort.
I am going to try and do it too.
