Why Provider is used with Firebase Auth?

Post Body
I keep seeing snippets of code where people use Provider to manage the state of the current logged in user. Why is that?
I'm currently implementing firebase auth and i cannot think of any reason i would need to use Provider or any state management solution.
I made a single function that retrieves the current logged in user. Then i import the file ane invoke this function whenever i need access to the currently logged in user.
Can someone explain why Provider is used with Auth?
