Throughout human conflict, landmines have been used to defend a position. The British used them, the Italians did, and so did the Germans. Millions of the things existed all over the world. At a mere five pounds pressure, a kid could easily be killed by them. Then, fluffies appeared. The Egyptian military viewed them as mere tools, a perverse affront to nature and thus not worthy of Allah.
Herds of trained fluffies were used to great effect in the desert detecting mines. While viewed as infidels by the Egyptians, they were shown respect as animals. Of course, accidents happened where fluffies triggered the mines they were meant to discover and flag.
Rumor has it the UN is entertaining the same idea in other parts of the world.
