How much flood insurance do you carry? My wife and I just bought a house and we signed up for insurance so we could close on the house, but now we are looking at it and wondering if we got it right. I couldn't find a discussion talking about is how much flood insurance coverage people have. Do you carry the full value of the house in flood insurance? I mean, some of the value of the house is the land. Also, do you insure the entirety of the structure (maybe 60%), or do you figure out how much damage a huge storm is likely to do and insure for that?
We currently have $250k in flood insurance for the structure, plus $150,000 for the contents of the house, on a house that was $2.25M. The house was built in 2017, has a lot of hurricane proof stuff, and is one of the highest houses in the neighborhood (flood zone x, 3 stories tall). How do you guys do it? Like, what is your house worth and what is your limit on flood insurance. Thanks for answering.
