Just ordered an x52, interested in IL-2:1946

What can I expect in order to get this to work well with 1946? I've seen many different opinions, some saying I'll need to use upwards of three different control settings (in-game, Saitek's App, and a third party app for IL-2).
Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm new and would like to avoid as many headaches as possible.
