Samsung and Amazon are running a sale on the Samsung 28" 4k monitor (about $100.00 off). It's a fantastic gaming monitor capable of 60fps and a 1ms refresh rate. It was an early birthday gift, and now that I finally have it set up, I thought I would share the experience and some tips for setup in case anyone else gets one.
Before getting the monitor you just need to ensure that your graphics card is capable. I have a GTX 770 which is UHD compatable. Because the monitor runs at a resolution of 3840x2160 the text is really difficult and honestly just painful on your eyes. You'll want to scale windows up to 160% to make everything pleasant (yet still sharp as hell). If you just launch Xplane, the mouse cursor will be out of scale with Xplane and you won't be able to navigate the menus, so you have to go to the xplane.exe properties and check the "disable display scale setting" in compatibility. So with the setup out of the way...
Right away you'll notice that everything is incredibly sharp and the color just pops (the monitor is capable of one billion colors). You'll also notice a hit on your frame rates as it keeps up with the high resolution. I noticed anywhere from 10-15 fps hit. To compensate I disabled the anti-aliasing and got a good portion of the frames back. You won't even notice the simulation with anti-aliasing off since the resolution is so freaking sharp. I use Skymaxx for my clouds and between the color of the sky and lighting, as well as the perception of "being there" from the sharpness, this has really changed Xplane for me. I haven't had any real issues or problems with UHD, but then again I haven't tested it too much because I have been checking... I mean testing out the 4k bikini videos on youtube :)
