Question about flat cages

So I'm looking to get a flat or a nub cage , is there some stuff I need to look out for ? Is it better to get a tighter ring ? I'm using a bigger ring now since I have a big d and it's most comfortable for day to day use . But I was thinking that a tighter ring should keep a smaller cage better in place ?
