Microwave deflector?

Just moved in to a new apartment where the landlord just installed a new microwave hood vent, but didn’t finish assembling it.
I found the manual online and found a spot for everything except this metal fan… Is it a deflector for the waves? Where the heck does it go? Best spot I could find is behind the white cover at the top but that doesn’t seem right… Manual doesn’t help at all. Thanks!
