Timeline Segment and Theory (1983+) with spoilers from books, movie, and Help Wanted 2
Post Body

Let me start with the disclaimer that I've never actually played the games or read the books myself, I'm piecing everything together from gameplay videos, theory videos and overviews.

  • On Crying Child's Birthday, Michael and friends lift him up to force him to kiss Freddy. The Animatronic bites down, injuring CC and sending him into the hospital.
  • William Afton grows distant, beginning to blame Henry as well as Michael. He lashes out, ultimately creating the missing children's incident. No bodies can be found, so after being held for questioning, William is released.
  • The ghosts of the children unable to, like the police, find their bodies. They begin to lose themselves.
  • William creates Afton Electronics, beginning to plan the Fun Time electronics.
  • Passing by Freddy's Family Diner, William sees Charlotte outside and kills her. He heads home to find that Michael is gone.
  • Michael is at Freddy's, and was there when Charlie got killed. He doesn't see it, but he's there. What he does see is the change to the Security Puppet. When William confronts him, Michael seemingly rambles about possession and horror theories.
  • The Security Puppet, now possessed by Charlotte, figures out that the bodies must be _in_ the animatronics.
  • Charlie guides the spirits to the animatronics, but she can't figure out which child goes where. Because she gives them the wrong gift, she ends up giving them the wrong lives. The spirits completely lose who they were.
  • Cassidy's spirit doesn't have an animatronic to go to, so she ends up possessing the location rather than an animatronic in particular.
  • Thinking about it, William decides to recreate the possession, putting his son Crying Child into the Golden Freddy plush. He visits his son in the hospital. "You are broken. I will put you back together." With that, William sends his son into the afterlife.
  • Instead of going into the plush doll, Crying Child's spirit goes to where the injury occurred, possessing the location with Cassidy. The two spirits begin to merge, in a way, because both are losing themselves. When they get a chance to manifest, it is the yellow Fredbear that they appear as, bearing the injuries that CC had sustained, but with Cassidy at the helm.
  • The relationship between William and his wife is on the rocks, the loss of a child always makes relationships harder. His wife thinks that another child might bring them together closer. Elizabeth is born, but it doesn't save their marriage.
  • William is working on the Fun Times, trying to find ways to extract Crying Child from the plush.
  • Mother Afton passes away, with Michael having to take care of Elizabeth while his father perfects Circus Baby. William Afton is basically absent in Michael's life, while he makes casual visits to his daughter. She keeps her father's visits a secret from the brother who "wouldn't understand".
  • William takes Elizabeth, resulting in her getting captured by Circus Baby. William gets his first real view of possession.
  • By the time of the AR games, they're little more than animals. The Puppet is the only one who was able to keep her mind, because Charlie's body was right there when the possession took place.

The order of the deaths comes from HW2, setting up the MCI before Charlie and then followed by CC. BUT we need a reason for the MCI to take place. By putting the bite before the incident, and the death after Charlie possesses the Security Puppet, we are able to justify this. He is lashing out over the injury of his son.

From the Mechanical Turk, we know that ghosts who don't know where their body is start to lose themselves. Cassidy and Crying Child merge into one spirit, ultimately taking the form of Golden Freddy. They aren't in the animatronic, it is just a phantom form, but they both are trying to reassert their identity, crying out "It's Me" to Michael.

Finally, from the movie I believe that the birth of Abby coming after the capture of Garret represents the birth of Elizabeth after the death of Crying Child. While Michael and Abby aren't Aftons in the movie, I think the timeline is meant to reflect that. We don't see Elizabeth's room in Midnight Motorist because she wasn't born yet. Michael is older at this point, and may be off at college until his mother dies. His dad, living in the Sister Location bunker, allows Michael and Elizabeth to have their own rooms, with William able to visit Elizabeth with ease.
