I have several good size (14-20 inch) water oaks that have died from several summers of draught. Hard freeze with ice a few weeks ago brought down a lot of limbs. This is much more wood that I can burn in several years.
There’s a fine young man in our neighborhood that sells firewood. Is it cool to offer the trees to him? They are right on the edge of our woods and easily accessible with his truck and trailer. I don’t need the wood but I also have no real need to take them down, therefore, would not pay to remove them. They’re not endangering anything if they fall over- which is doubtful because there’s no rot and the trunks are solid. They’ll make great firewood and Water Oak, with its straight grain, splits like a dream.
There’s probably four or five cords of good wood. The branches are burnable now.
