Thumper questions

I have a 1/4 barrel keg I want to build into a thumper. I have three questions I’m having a hard time finding answers to
- How long should the downcomer be? I’m planning on building my own and saving some money. I cant find what the distance should be between the bottom of the tube and the bottom of the keg.
- How many inches above the end of the downcomer pipe should the liquid be? I don’t want to add too much and create a lot of pressure
- Have any of you added larger ferrules to your thumpers to add flavoring at the end of the heads? It might not make a difference but I would think a lot of the flavor would get stripped away in the heads
