Google Hangouts in Firefox

Anyone have any thoughts about how to incorporate Google Hangouts (the new, I/O version) into Firefox. I was thinking that perhaps it would be possible to use the social api. Or an extension.

I just tried to use the chrome crx file in firefox using the "Google Chrome Extention manager" but that failed. I also tried the extension factory converter but no dice.

In general, I dislike how Google is making more and more of their things Chrome-specific and was wondering how to add some of that functionality into Firefox.
