Should I read the comics before watching the movie?

Been (finally!) watching Firefly these past months, and I'm close to the end of the show. Reading around the internets, I saw that the movie was intended to close the plot but left a lot of subplots and details unanswered, and that some (or all) of the comics have been filling these holes with more or less fortune/quality.

So, the question is simple: Are the comics worth to read, and should I read them before watching Serenity, or are they just interesting "fillers" that can be left for reading in another moment?
