So the rapport that the Lords have amongst themselves I feel is very much a let down in terms of itās potential. I say this from a narrative standpoint but also from like, a gameplay conceptual standpoint. Again, Iāve probably said this before, but going into FE3H I didnā t know too much about the game; I knew there was a teaching section and I knew there was a time skip. I always assumed some kind of nefarious puppetry was gonna cause some horrific accident that severed the connections of the three houses in a way that it takes a long time to bring them back, and I always assumed by the end of the game Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude would fight together on some level. Now, obviously the storyline and stuff was way different, and trust me, I really do love this game. But having seen the prologue chapter 6 times, as well as the fall of Garreg Mach cut scene a few times, plus just the interactions the house leaders have throughout the early part of the game (and post time skip, I assume), I really, really wish there was some semblance of using them together. And yeah, I know a lot of people donāt want a Revelations-like Golden Ending (I am only halfway through Fates, after playing Birthright, so Iām not sure what this looks like, but I will say someone once told me those games would make me appreciate the grey-area nuance Edelgard, Rhea, etc., and honestly that person was pretty right), I would be more than satisfied with there being some kind of Sothis/Byleth time fuckery to allow a 5th, unified route to happen. Iāll detail that in a second.
But the main thing I wanted to say with this post was I wish you could at least have 2 of the lords pair-up in each route. And you could even limit that to what the route is itself.
Like I think sans Golden Ending Route, youāre probably only getting Dimitri/Claude and Edelgard/Claude, but I still think that would be dope, and I also think it still highlights Bylethās influence. So for example;
Blue Lions: Byleth helps Dimitri through his mental state, allowing him to expand his vision beyond ākill every last one of them,ā and a two pronged Byleth/Dimitri allyship can then envelop Claude into the fold. I get that Claude isnāt much long for Fodlan because of itās racism and shit, and I get that for Claude to truly embrace the revolution he wants he needs Byleth from the start, but I donāt think itās unreasonable for Claude to join up with Dimitri for the last few chapters of Blue Moon after Gronder Field. Or the Dierdrue mission.
Crimson Flower: Claude has similar suspicions to Edelgardās regarding the church, of course we only really see this in the Golden Deer route. However if we recognize that Edelgardās initial attack on Garreg Mach is pretty fucked up, and take into consideration Byleth siding with and how that makes her war campaign a bit more benevolent (shitty quote to Dimitri aside about him continuing to fight back), I think itās also reasonable to choose between killing and sparing Claude, and having the spare option be way more impactful. Like, a real discussion can be had between El, Byleth, and Claude about Rheaās fuckedupness, and any good blood between Dimitri and Claude can be potentially squared away by a lack of faith in The Boar when he decides to super-fundamentalize The HOLY Kingdom of Faerghus and make it the churchās number one ally.
Golden Deer: The copy and pasted cut scene of Byleth killing Edelgard really grates me in this campaign because you have no indication of their relationship in Golden Deer. The only possible canon explanation falls back to wild theorizing that this entire game and itās myriad of routes can be all one Byleth using Sothisā time powers to figure out the best route to take; house choice included. Anyway, I mainly say that for the Golden Ending route idea I have lol. So yeah, I think out of all the routes where Edelgard is definitively the protagonist, being able to recruit her in Golden Deer if you spare her makes a lot of sense. Moreso than Blue Lions, I guess. I think there is then some really cool opportunities for Edelgard to right the wrongs of TWSITD, and fight Nemesis. Which maybe takes some clout away from Claude, but I think the entire last few chapters of GD and SS just get confusing in terms of the right people fighting the right enemies. Also the reason Dimitri canāt be recruited in GD is because Byleth canāt help him through his mental state, therefore he never moves past just wanted to kill El and suiciding into Empire lances.
Silver Snow: If the devs really wanted to keep the tragic motif of this route, I think it gets amplified by letting Edelgard be spared ONLY in Golden Deer, in a similar map in the other two anti-El routes. I think there is some amazing artistry to her death at Dimitriās hands in BL, and I think there is a tragic heartbreak if Byleth HAS to kill her in SS, because at that point narratively the only way to save El is to side with her. I genuinely wish though that they would either patch in the ability to spare her in GD, and use her as a unit in the last couple of maps, since itās only against TWSITD, or patch SS to add the Nemesis map, let you spare El and use her up until the last map, and maybe add a new cutscene where Rhea becomes the Immaculate One again, but also instinctively kills Edelgard as she does it. Maybe Edelgard sacrifices herself for Byleth. Idk.
Iāll probably make a more detailed post about the Golden Ending idea I have if this post leads to some fruitful discussion, tbh. My idea regarding it really is just Byleth trying to save everyone through time travel, and maybe there is a choice that can be made pre-time skip where you get all the lords together. That can still end in tragedy, and honestly I have deeper ideas about where Byleth has to back even further.
Anyway I know that the time travel idea might not be the most popular, and that media concept is something that isnāt everyoneās fav, but I genuinely really enjoy time travel stuff like Bioshock Infinite, The Butterfly Effect, etc.
