I have the fire tv 4k stick on one TV, and the first gen fire TV on another TV. The Youtube TV app is not available on the amazon app store for first gen Fire TVs.
I had followed some other guides on the internet that had me install the aptoide app store and then the crosswalk library and then some 3rd party YouTube TV bootstrappers. I tried like 4 of these, and each of them had several options within them, and I could only get 1 of them to work, and it was capped at 480p. Not ideal.
Anyway, my steps for getting this to work
- Connect to the FireTV 4k stick via ADB
- Pull the APK
- disconnect adb
- then you can sideload the apk onto the first gen device in a variety of different ways. I installed it via adb:
- Connect to the first gen FireTV via ADB
- run: adb install [apkname]
Lo and behold it actually worked.
Kind of annoying that this demonstrates that there is no technical reason for the app to not be available for first gen fire TVs, it's simply a business decision by either Google or Amazon (or both).
I'm not really sure about the legality of sharing the extracted apk, so i'm not going to upload it at this time. Sorry.
