Do you expect something extra for your birthday? (When the restaurant is aware it’s your birthday, and your birthday is that day, not a week before)
Went to a tasting menu in NOLA for a friend’s birthday recently, noted in both the reservation when asked for occasion and the staff noted at the door and directly to friend, but then.. nothing? No extras at all beyond that? And maybe it’s stuffy, but we were a wee bit disappointed.
Been out for many birthdays and there’s always been something - a whole extra off-menú dessert, special drink , extra amuse bouche, even just a candle stuck in their normal dessert and dessert comped.
Wasn’t an unenjoyable experience, we still had a great time snd it’s not like we pick restaurants based off expectations of a special birthday thing, were just surprised to have staff acknowledge the birthday but then not get anything special when we’ve never had that before. When I worked in food service I always made sure we did a little something special if a birthday or anniversary was noted in the reservation or told to us directly.
Am I alone here? Do you expect extra birthday treats or no?
