Question about Financing Grad School?
Post Body

Hey all so I will make this as short and concise as possible because I'm kind of at a loss. As a buffer, I have zero collateral so private loans aren't an option and the self-employment job I have I make maximum $10K a year. Okay now with the primer done:

  • I was denied a GradPLUS Loan because of 3 accounts in collections. I paid all 3 accounts and have proof via letters saying my accounts are paid in full. Upon the appeal process I was still denied.
  • Sallie Mae denied me as well
  • I don't have collateral for a private banking loan
  • My school will only be giving me $20K and the year is going to run $75K. I need to come up with that other $55 myself plus any housing and other things related to grad school so I want a $100K loan.
  • Student Aid (GradPLUS) will be calling me so I can ask more about my second denial but assuming they still deny me, what are my options here aside from essentially give up on Grad school since I'm below the poverty line/ won't be able to afford it out of pocket and have no one willing to co-sign?
