An interesting way to nuzlocke FFT
Post Body

After doing some Pokémon Nuzlocke runs, the idea came to try a FFT one. After searching online for existing ideas and comments about them, I came up with an interesting set of rules. I thought this might inspire some people here on this subreddit, so here goes nothing!

Disclaimers

  1. I know FFT is not good for nuzlocking (many 1-hit KO attacks from enemies). I made this for more seasoned players like me, which played this game about 327858730958 times and are looking for a challenge
  2. This is based on a lot of online content about FFT Nuzlocke, like a recent video from Ryukhar and some championships from WizDaddy74 Youtube Channel/Stream, and some of my ideas
  3. These are suggestions, not mandates. Change them to your liking for more enjoyment!

Basic Rules

  1. No reviving. A character that faints in battle (before crystalizing) is DEAD. Allow it to crystalize, or unequip remove from party after the battle
    1. I like to allow revival from any NPC, as long as you didn't change their skills to do so. Random factor that adds up to Nuzlocke
    2. If you game over, it's time for a new run. Also, if Ramza is dead... then it's a Game Over, since you can't kick him out of the party (optional before Crystalization)
  2. No special characters, no touching them either (items and jobs)
  3. No level grinding (always move to your next history battle)
    1. I like to allow Random battles while moving to the next goal. It's random, so adds up to the Nuzlocke thing, you actually want them in the beginning of the game
  4. No stalling in battle to gain xp/jp
  5. No jp glitch
  6. You can recruit ONE character per town, which is the FIRST character that shows up on the Soldier Office. You can select between male/female
  7. With the exception of the first battle (more on that later), no duplicated Classes, Skills, or Monster Types. So no Monk with Dual Wield Ninja, no Black Magic to your White Mage Black Mage, no two characters with Hamedo/Move MP Up & MP Switch/Shirahadori, etc.
  8. No touching ANY characters Brave and Faith. Ramza's decisions before battles might add 1 brave, and I personally think that's flavorfull and fun... so I allow them
    1. To me this is another important random factor, alongside the zodiac signs and compatibilities. This often defines a character role/job
  9. Ramza's birth date should be Random (there are many random generators online)
  10. Some habilities are too strong/broken, so I chose to ban them. Math Skill,Summon and Abandon are my initial choices, maybe expanded to Two Swords, Dragon Spirit, Hamedo, Shirahadori, Nameless Dance... keep banning more if you think they destroy the challenge/fun
  11. No special items, like Escutcheon 2, Chaos Blade, Chantage...
    1. I do think Blood Sword is OK though. It's hard to acquire without loosing a character, requires you to invest in a Thief early on which can be challeging for some, and it has low damage on the mid-late game. Not allowing Hamedo makes it a bit weaker as well, though you could add Counter/Concentration/Attack Up/Double Hand. Haven't tested this yet
  12. Invitation is a tricky one. I like the idea of allowing 1 invitation per character, since it is a considerable effort to have a Mediator, plus risking another character to get a new one. I would also avoid overpowered monsters, like the Hydras

Mulligans

  1. On the Mandalia Plains battle, if you choose to save Alguns, and he decides to kill himself without giving you a change to heal him, just reset. Everybody knows he's a douche and a traitor (you could equip a Chemist with Battle Boots to try to reach him though)
  2. Freakin' Crush Punch before you can acquire a death protection item. Heck Wiegraf and his 25% change to kill your characters on Chapter 1. I recomend a battle reset in case it happens
  3. If you realize you forgot to change an hability or have an "ilegal team" on the party choice screen, just reset and make your changes

That's all I can remember for now. What you guys think? Would you try a playthough like this? Any more things to consider to have a challenging run? The furthest I went was chapter two, but I don't consider myself a good FFT player

Edit: Lots of formatting
