Was the narrator actually at work (the cinema) instead of at home w insomnia?

Hey I’m rereading the book right now and I’m toward the beginning and the narrator says that while Tyler was up working all the nights i was at home not able to sleep. So does that mean that he was actually working. It just doesn’t make sense to me because I know that his insomnia was the cause of so many things
