I've been attempting to use two different Samsung smartphones, an S10 and an S23 Ultra, for field recording purposes and have been running into a peculiar issue. I have been using the application Field Recorder for my recording purposes due to its excellent level of configurability. However, when recording audio I notice a persistent noise reduction effect is present on the audio. This manifests itself in a reduction in treble content of sound sources further away from the microphone as well as the audio having a sort of "underwater" effect to it similar to early DSP noise reduction algorithms.
One of the features of the Field Recorder application is the ability to switch between the various audio feeds, labeled "MicA" through "MicE" as well as "Call" and "Raw". However, save for the "Raw" feed, none of these feeds are free of the noise reduction effect. The "Raw" feed seems to not have this issue however it is a monaural only capture.
I have tested this with an LG V30 as well and I found that one of the microphone feeds as selectable within Field Recorder does not have any issues with such noise suppression issues so perhaps this is a Samsung issue.
I was wondering if anyone has had any similar troubles when using their smartphone, be it an Apple or Android product, when attempting to use them for field recording purposes.
