I don't understand why someone would sell this incredible work of art at all, let alone letting it go for less than the $50k it's clearly worth! It clearly is a sign of toxic misogyny! There is no other explanation for not wanting to keep a quilt that's been folded up and stored in less than ideal conditions for the last century-plus!
When I die, I hope my grandchildren drape any of the quilts I've made them that they don't want over the chairs/pews at my funeral and offer them to those who come! But it's best if they don't advertise that first so that's not why people come! I wouldn't want fake quilt-appreciators to attend my funeral just to get one of my special, unique, woman-made quilts that they might give away for less than they're worth someday! Only REAL quilt-appreciators get to have my handmade quilts for free!
Definitely some misogynist discarded that! Just like when my friend Betty went to visit her darling son and she asked her daughter in law where the beautiful king size quilt was that she handmade as their wedding gift was. She told her it was stored in the closet because it didn’t match their decor! Can you imagine! It was a perfectly neutral color scheme of pumpkin orange, olive green, and baby pink. What wouldn’t that match? Anyway clearly DIL has some pent up internalized misogyny to make such a decision.
